Preparatory Notes
Figure out what percentage of gold he might have had access to – where did he get it from? What could it have been? We can match the quality by adding copper wire.
Danger assessment of adding stuff to gold: should be fine as long as not liquid
What is crucible made of? We could make one out of fine charcoal – research crucible in manuscript. Don’t know what the one in the office is made from.
Sal ammoniac: ammonium chloride
Saltpeter: potassium nitrate
Verdigris: copper carbonate or copper acetate
Have Ned order three charcoal blocks from Carlos the office supply guy or have Carlos get them from the lab supply place.
Get cuttlefish from pet store and give some to Dad so he can understand what we will be working with.
Do detail work with Jef about the meanings in the recipe and then get back to Dad with questions.
